The host venue, Royal Norwich, was in fantastic condition, fast, smooth greens with well defined fairways. A tribute to the attention to detail of the officers of the club and the greens staff in delivering the vision. Day one offers 36 holes of stroke-play with the top 20 players and ties going through to day two to vie for the right to be crowned Norfolk Amateur Champion 2018. It was a great start to the day when Warren Bates of Heacham Manor fired a 4 under par, new course record of 66 which included a triple bogey to take the lead. Closely followed by James Hazel of Sprowston Manor and Chris Robson of Feltwell both shooting 68 with Jack Cullington of Bawburgh and Darren Abbs of Royal Norwich one shot further back on 69.

Round two was an exercise in patience to ensure any poor shots or poor decisions were minimised affording the players progress into the latter stages of the tournament.

Bates, cemented his 66 with a one over 71 resulting in a combined total of 137 and with it the lead going into day two. Storming up the leader board came Giles Evans of Sprowston Manor with a three under par 67 bringing him to 2nd spot overall with Jack Cullington one shot further back and Iain Yule of Kings Lynn one further back still.
