2018 Norfolk Boys Championships

2018 Norfolk Boys Champions.......

The Boys Championships for 2018 took pace at Swaffham Golf Club in wonderful sunshine. The course was, as it always is, in fantastic condition and more remarkable so when talking the difficult weather conditions the whole country has endured for the past couple of months. A tribute to the greens team is well deserved.

The format is stroke-play, medal, open to all male golfers under 18 years for the Championship with a Handicap Championship and an Under 16 Scratch and Handicap Championship played in conjunction.

The boys performed magnificently in the tough unrelenting sunshine .
Ben Willis of Swaffham made sure home cub advantaged paid off happily securing the Norfolk Boys Championships with a fine two rounds of 75 and 77 combining for a 152 total for the day. A job well done.

The Under 18 Handicap Champion was James Tipling Sheringham with a score of nett 68-63 totaling 131 nett in all.

The Boys Under 16 Scratch Champion was Casey Patterson of Royal Cromer with a score of 78-75 resulting in a 153 total and the Under 16 Handicap Champion was Joe Crane of Dereham with a score of nett 66-72 making a total of 138.

A great Championship played in great spirit.

Skevington Trophy 2018

Norfolk Under 16's.....

Royal Norwich played host to the annual Skevington Trophy match. Four Counties, (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Bedfordshire), each fielding 8 players, took part. The format is Team strokeplay over 27 holes for the overall award with individual awards for the best Scratch and Handicap players. It was played on a very hot day with all boys playing well.
In the end Suffolk took the Team award with Essex player Jack Wells taking the Scratch trophy. Two great rounds by Norfolk's Jacob Jeary saw him win the Handicap trophy with a nett 91 after 27 holes and just missing out on the Scratch Trophy on count back. Royal Norwich was in great condition even with this long dry spell, the greens were quick which caught some of the boys out early in the round.
