The weather wasn’t very kind to the players in the semi finals of this year’s handicap league played on the Valley Course but it was nothing compared to the Monsoon like conditions during the final in the afternoon on the Hill Course.

The first semi-final resulted in a 3-1 victory for Sprowston Manor over Costessey Park.

Results (Sprowston Manor first)
Sean McClune& Eric Donnelly beat Kevin Webb & Gary Dougdale
Craig Morton & Wayne Gilling beat Warren Blackwell & Peter Sturman
Ryan Woods & Andrew Glister lost to Paul Donaghue & Alex Meek
Lewis Woods & Mark Scott beat Sean Rafferty & Ian Rafferty

In the second semi-final Wensum Valley defeated Sheringham by 2½ to 1½

Results (Wensum Valley first)
Scott Barker & Ian Harvey halved with Danny Rouse & Steve Patterson
Gary Haze & Jason Sharp lost to Ben Rawsthorne & Cameron Bates
Kane Hindle & Richard Howe beat Neal Milton & Kevin Kibble-White
Phil Leamon & Paul Venn beat Alex Winstanley & James Tipping

All credit to the players of Sprowston Manor and Wensum Valley in the final as they battled against atrocious conditions. Unfortunately, the weather curtailed the final prematurely. The first match agreed to a half, the second match was a resounding win for Sprowston Manor, the third and fourth matches were abandoned and with Sprowston Manor leading in both the result was declared as a 3½ to ½ victory for Sprowston Manor.

Results (Sprowston Manor first)
Sean McClune & Eric Donnelly halved with Scott Barker & Ian Harvey
Craig Morton & Wayne Gilling beat Gary Haze & Jason Sharp
Ryan Woods & Andrew Glister beat Kane Hindle & Richard Howe
Lewis Woods & Mark Scott beat Phil Leamon & Paul Venn

A special thanks to referees Bob & Phil who, due to the weather, were called into action several times.

2018 Handicap League - Finals Day

Middleton Hall come to the party............

The little gem, Richmond Park GC hosted the handicap League semi-finals and final for 2018 on a very well- presented golf course.

The semi-finals were between Royal Cromer v Wensum Valley and Barnham Broom v Middleton Hall.

These matches are always closely contested and the first match of Royal Cromer against Wensum Valley finished in a victory to Wensum Valley after a truly well fought match.

The second semi-final, neither Barnham Broom nor Middleton Hall could be separated and due to some sparkling golf the match finished all square and a play-off was needed. The first extra hole was halved and so on to the second. Again this was well played but a timely putt from Middleton Hall saw them advance to the final where Wensum Valley awaited.

The final proved a nail-biting experience with the result coming down to the wire. Middleton Hall were ahead in one game, Wensum Valley ahead in another game and the third game all square. Wensum Valley needing a putt to take the match to extra holes, had the misfortune to see the ball horse-shoe around the hole and with that their quest to take the championship to a play-off was over and Middleton Hall ran out victors by two and a half points to one and a half points and with it the title of Handicap League Champions 2018. A great match played in great spirit.
