Sully savours England action

Goddard was making his international debut and played his part as Team England pipped  Ireland for top spot in the combined event.

The Thetford golfer’s highlight was a superb final-day 2 and 1 singles success against an Irish opponent as England Boys made it three wins from three matches.

Goddard, 17, said: “It was such a fun experience competing in the Home Internationals.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent my country and I can take so much away from the experience, having learned a lot on and off the golf course.

“It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”

Fellow Norfolk teenager Harry Thomas also teed up for Wales Boys and enjoyed two victories during the tournament.

The Eaton golfer posted a 5 and 4 singles win against Ireland and a 3 and 2 comeback triumph in a foursomes tie against a Scottish pairing.

But Wales were unable to record a team win in Thomas’s last year in junior international golf.  

Thomas, 18, said: “I really enjoyed my final Home Internationals. To have played three has been a great opportunity and I can’t thank the team at Wales Golf enough for everything they have done for me.

“It’s a special week  and to spend it with so many close friends made it even better.

“As a team, the result wasn’t what we were looking for, but personally I felt I played some great golf and have many positives to take forward.”

Both boys are in action this week at the R&A Boys' Amateur Championship at Gailes Links in Ayrshire.
