The victorious Barnham Broom team are all smiles after winning the Cullington Cup
Father and son combination Robbie and Jay Watts were the toast of Barnham Broom Golf Club after the pair brought home the Cullington Cup at the end of a three-hole play-off.
The 2026 final of Norfolk’s team knockout foursomes competition for players with handicap indices ranging between 10 and 18 took place at Sprowston Manor – and what a battle unfolded between Barnham Broom and Mattishall.
Barnham Broom came out on top from the morning matches, claiming a 3-1 halfway lead.
But Mattishall turned the tables on their opponents in the second set of ties to leave the final score at 4-4.
That meant extra holes were required to decide the title outcome and the Watts duo duly stood tall for Barnham Broom.
They faced up to Mattishall pair Todd Pitcher and Connor Mulcahy in what turned out to be a thrilling play-off staged across the 18th.
Jay Watts hit a superb greenside bunker shot at the second extra hole, allowing his dad to hole out from a couple of feet for the half.
It was a similar scenario at the next after opponents Mattishall found the green from over 200 yards at the par-5.
With the light fading, the Mattishall men failed to take advantage of their fine approach work and Robbie Watts holed the winning putt from close range after an excellent pitch from his son.
