NORFOLK’S senior golf team maintained their 100 per cent record when they surged to a 9-6 success over Cambridgeshire at Thetford Golf Club.
Captain Iain Reid’s side bossed the morning foursomes play to open up a commanding 4-1 lead in the 2024 East Anglian Senior League fixture.
The subsequent singles action proved to be much closer as the visitors threatened a comeback.
But in the top match Hunstanton golfer Simon Butts earned a vital half point with a stunning fairway wood that set up a closing par.
Reid claimed his second point of the day with a comfortable triumph before team-mates Jon Batten and Mark Williamson recorded convincing successes in the middle order.
Cambridgeshire kept on scrapping but Mark Butt clinched outright victory for the hosts when he closed out his opponent on the 17th hole.
And in the final head-to-head, Iain Yule produced a couple of birdies down the stretch to help him pick up a hard-earned half.
Reid said: “We made a good strong start with some excellent foursomes play to open up a lead.
“The afternoon singles were more hard-fought with several close matches. But four of us managed to win and there were also a couple of key halved games that helped us get the overall victory.
“That’s two wins from two, which is fantastic and I’m hoping we can produce another really good performance when we host Northamptonshire at Hunstanton Golf Club on June 28.”
