Clymer Bowl 2025
Norfolk’s first team emerged victorious as a selection of the county’s leading golfers assembled for the curtain-raising Clymer Bowl staged at Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club.
The annual 36-hole foursomes tournament was contested by four sides – Norfolk’s firsts and seconds, the county under-18 boys and a further team selected by NCGU president Bob Carrick.
The morning play saw two hard-fought encounters in which the firsts edged the seconds 3-2, while the President’s men overcame the under-18s by the same margin.
In the afternoon, Carrick’s outfit drew first blood with Harriet Allsebrook and Robert Wilson securing a 3 and 2 success over evergreen Norfolk ace Simon Clark and teenager Liam Caffyn.
But the tide soon turned with Carl Green and Scott Wright posting a point for the first team. Team-mates Callum Rana and Tom Rutherford also followed suit before unbeaten pair Sully Goddard and Josh Chamberlain clinched outright victory for Norfolk.
The final match on the course ended all-square leaving the county first team as the overall 3.5-1.5 victors.
The third-place match was a one-sided affair in which the under-18s came out on top by a 4.5-0.5 margin.
NCGU president Carrick said: “Once again, the Clymer Bowl proved an excellent way to start the county golf season. The day blended fun and steely competition in equal measures. Throughout there was some very good golf played, not least by many of our junior golfers who continue to make good progress.
“I’d like to extend our thanks to Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club, who were generous hosts as always.”
