Reid steps down from Seniors helm

Date

IAIN Reid signed off from a successful stint as Norfolk Seniors captain after his side played their final fixture of 2024.

Eaton Golf Club member Reid has been in charge for the last two seasons and masterminded plenty of victories.

His last game as skipper saw the county seniors prevail 9.5-8.5 in a thrilling friendly with Leicestershire and Rutland, played at King’s Lynn Golf Club.

Reid paired up with Blair Ainslie to record a thumping 7&6 victory in the afternoon better-ball play.

Reid said: “It has been a great honour to represent and captain Norfolk in 2023 and 2024. During that time the team has shown great spirit, enthusiasm and commitment – and played lots of quality golf.

“We have won most of our matches in the past two years, although a fine Lincolnshire side has twice defied our attempts to win the league.

“And on a personal level, the highlight was our best-ever finish in last year’s South East Six-Man qualifier.

“I would like to thank all of those that have represented Norfolk Seniors in the last two seasons. Also, I am very grateful to everyone within Norfolk County Golf Union for their support.”

Reid remains available for county selection in 2025 when he will be captain of Eaton Golf Club.

NCGU secretary Peter Johns said: “Iain has done a fantastic job since taking the helm from his predecessor John Tavener.

“Like all good captains he has led from the front, winning many matches. Consistent and determined, Norfolk County Golf Union would like to thank Iain for all his hard work and fine golf.”
