Reid pride at Seniors display

Iain Reid produced some scoring magic to help secure a top-six spot at the Senior Men’s Champion of Champions in Lincolnshire

Eaton Golf Club captain Iain Reid delivered a brilliant birdie burst to help climb into a top-six finish at the Senior Men’s Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa.

The 2025 Norfolk Seniors winner enjoyed a fine two days at England Golf’s tournament for county champions.

He began with a three-over-par effort that left him in tenth spot among the elite 29-man field assembled for the 36-hole event in Lincolnshire.

All Reid’s solid work threatened to unravel at the start of the second day as he bogeyed the opening hole and then recorded a double-bogey at the third.

But the former Norfolk Seniors captain bounced back in inspiring fashion, making five birdies in his next 12 holes.

That helped Reid storm up the leaderboard before he signed for a one-under-par round of 72 that left him two-over for the event and in sole possession of sixth place.

Reid said: “There’s nothing like a double-bogey to focus the concentration! I had a bit of talking to myself – just to knuckle down.

“It’s a case of being patient, hit lots of fairways, give yourselves chances and hopefully a few of the putts go in – and luckily they did.  A few, nice 20-footers went in. Also, there were a couple of reachable par-5s, which always helps.”

He outlined, too, how Norfolk teenager Sully Goddard’s tied-second place in the Boys’ Champion of Champions served as a motivating factor for his own final round.

Reid added: “I watched Sully play for the last six holes and he’s an inspiring young man. It was great that we could both do the county proud.

“There’s a real sense of achievement because there was some really good county and national players there.”
