In an entertaining final, Barnham Broom GC overcame a strong challenge from The Links GC by four games to one to win the Barnard Trophy for the first time since 1999.
The match was held at Royal Norwich, last year’s champions, and was played in a friendly but competitive spirit by both teams.
Although Barnham Broom were in the overall lead for most of the day, four of the games made it to at least the iconic 17th hole, where the pressure of tee shots across the water was felt by those having to hit the shot.
Eventually, Barnham Broom won three of the games and halved the other two, but The Links certainly made them work for the victory.
Barnham Broom captain Tony Lynne, receiving the Trophy from Norfolk County president Stuart Goodman, said how proud he was of his team’s performance throughout the previous rounds and in the final itself. Cliff Pegg, captain of The Links, also congratulated his players for their efforts.
