Salvers success for Middleton Hall partnership

Date

Middleton Hall owner Dave Freeman teamed up with his west Norfolk club’s PGA professional Adam Lewarne to win the Coronation Salvers in impressive fashion.

Freeman and Lewarne received 12 strokes for the historic Stableford tournament, which was staged this year at a sunbaked Ryston Park.

After a steady start the pair began to pile up the points. The highlight of the  dovetailing duo’s round  came at the 519-yard par-5 14th where they recorded a gross birdie.

In the immediate aftermath of their victory, 25-handicapper Freeman was self-deprecating as he praised his playing partner Lewarne.

Freeman said: “I was mentored by this gentleman, and he played wonderfully today. I just needed to hack it around because he did all the good work.

“It’s the first 18 holes I’ve played in a little while – I don’t play a lot. It’s all credit to this guy.”

Freeman was equally complimentary about nine-hole Ryston Park, which opened a second set of tees in early April.

He said: “It’s easier to play on a golf course that’s lovely like this. I pass it every day and I didn’t realise it is such a nice golf course. It is really, really smart. The tee boxes are nice, the greens are pure.”

Legends Tour professional Andrew Marshall and fellow Dereham member Maisie Farrelly finished runners-up in a competition that was first staged in 1953.

Jon Lewis and Jonathan Clements took third place on their home course, which was in immaculate condition and well received by the field comprised of 29 pairings.
