MIKE Devlin has started his duties as president of the Norfolk County Golf Union after Bob Carrick ended his year in office,
At the organisation’s AGM, Carrick passed the baton to Devlin, who has enjoyed a longstanding association with the county golf union.
He worked as NCGU secretary and in recent years has been engaged as the county’s course rating team leader.
“I have served our clubs and county faithfully in many roles over the years and receive this accolade with enormous pride,” said Devlin at the beginning of his presidency.
“My enthusiasm for the support of golf within our county is as strong as it has always been and I look forward to continuing in this vein throughout my year in office.”
Devlin follows in the footsteps of Carrick, who has been tireless in his efforts over the last 12 months.
Carrick, remaining on the NCGU board, said: “The highlight of the last year for me is that the county golf union secretary Peter Johns and I have visited every club in Norfolk – and it has been a humbling experience, especially with the smaller clubs. I have been so impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the staff and also by the numerous volunteers.
“Also, I’d like to thank Peter for all his help during the past 12 months and wish Mike Devlin the very best of luck in the ensuing year.”
This weekend sees the NCGU’s first big championship of 2025 with the County Foursomes set to take place over April 12-13 at Heacham Manor Golf Club.
No less than 66 pairs are targeting the prestigious title claimed 12 months ago at Swaffham Golf Club by Sheringham duo John Little and Martin Jones.
