Seniors warm up with victory at King’s Lynn

Date

Our Norfolk Seniors team continued their pre season warm-up last weekend with a trip to King’s Lynn GC to play their Myhill squad and, on an unusually breezy day with very firm fairways, holding them was always going to be key.

In a greensomes format, we found ourselves giving shots in all but the last match.

Leading our Seniors out were Hendrick & Reid, who managed to birdie the 18th in their second consecutive match to secure a 1up victory.

Next came our usual reliable pair of Butts & Williamson giving 6 strokes. So when the King’s Lynn pair went round in 2 under gross, it proved to be a difficult day, and we were deservedly beaten by a 6&5 margin.

Myhill & Coates couldn’t put daylight between themselves and their opponents, so they shared the spoils.

Jennings & Folbigg fought valiantly against the home pair, which included +2 Handicap Bernstein, but they would eventually lose by 1 hole.

Stapleton & Lloyd were giving 5 strokes and took an early lead, which proved too much for their opponents winning 4&3.

In the final game, County pair of Yule & Butt, both Kings Lynn members playing a flat match, were far too strong for the locals, eventually dishing out the proverbial dog licence!

Both teams enjoyed the hospitality and course condition provided by King’s Lynn GC in what was a very competitive game played in good spirits. Both team captains agreed it was a worthwhile exercise.
