Norfolk’s two men’s teams are all set for the start of the 2026 Anglian League season after an extensive preparation programme under new joint-managers Simon Clark and Carl Green.
The Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club duo have worked tirelessly throughout the winter months engaging with players and hosting a series of specialist training sessions.
There have also been on-course practice days ahead of recent warm-up matches against a Norfolk professionals’ side and the county seniors’ team.
Clark, who has served two stints as county captain, said: “Preparations have gone well. We came into the role at the end of October and have had buy-in from new faces, juniors and some old faces returning. It’s great we’ve had that.
“This is year one of a longer-term plan. Going forward, Norfolk golf is in a good position. We’ve got a lot of talent – and a lot of young talent coming through – which is very pleasing.”
Green, who also has longstanding connections with golf in the county, outlined how he and Clark are happy with the current players available for selection – but that it’s a work in progress.
Green said: “It’s a good squad. We’re always looking to improve. That’s why we’ve got a development system in place, working with our coach Nic Cains.
“We’re also in communication with our players abroad – at college in America and things like that. They’ll be back at some point within the season.
“The teams will be selected on a game-by-game basis. We’re going to take a whole bunch of things into account when it comes to picking each individual side.
“We’re looking to have a big and strong squad. We’ll need that if we are to do well and compete in the games we’ve got.”
Teams have been selected for May 10’s opening league matches against Leicestershire & Rutland. The firsts are away at Cosby Golf Club and the seconds will host at Bawburgh Golf Club.
The selection committee has also named an 11-man travelling squad for May 16-17’s Eastern Counties Foursomes at Seacroft.
Clark and Green will both be in action with the proven pair intending to continue fine playing careers alongside their new management duties.
But Green added: “There will be nobody happier than Simon and myself if there’s success in the team and we’re there watching that with younger players coming through.”
