Norfolk teenager Harry Thomas produced his best performance of the season so far to finish runner-up in the Sir Henry Cooper Boys Championship at Kings Hill Golf Club.
The Eaton golfer, 17, lined up as part of a 117-strong field, which included a list of junior internationals.
Thomas – himself a member of the Wales Boys’ squad – opened up with a level-par round of 70 and then added a second-day 73.
He began the final round just inside the top-20 but saved his best for last, coping superbly with blustery conditions at the Kent course.
Thomas shot the second-best round of the day, signing for a 70 that lifted him all the way up to second spot – three back from the winner Ethan Roos, who fired a 69.
Thomas said: “I was absolutely delighted with my performance. They were tough conditions in the final round but I seem to find when the going gets tough, I get going!
“I’m looking forward to building on this result in the events to come.”
County and country engagements are around the corner for the Culford School pupil.
Thomas has just been named in the Wales’ squad for the European Boys Team Championship, which will take place in the Czech Republic from July 8-12.
Before that, he is set to feature in the Norfolk Boys’ side set for action in the South East League Qualifier at Clandon Regis Golf Club in Surrey.
Thomas, Liam Caffyn, Sully Goddard, Jake Gunby, Quin Monaghan and Theo Pudney form the six-man Norfolk team to face 10 other counties on July 3.
